Dowie was delighted to finish as runner-up in the prestigious award and said: "I am honoured to have been voted as runner-up in the BT Woman of the Year.

"Just to be nominated against such top quality sportswomen was a huge privilege, so to finish as runner-up is a proud moment for me.

"I am overwhelmed by the support I have received and would like to thank all those that took the time to vote for me.

"I would also like to thank the manager, coaching staff and my teammates as without the help of these people being nominated would not have been possible."
