Boss: Why I had to applaud supporters
Brendan Rodgers delivered a personal tribute to Liverpool's travelling supporters for their 'unique' efforts throughout the Reds' 2-0 FA Cup victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
More than 250 miles separate Merseyside and the south coast, and yet the 2,000 away tickets provided to the club for the early kick-off were sold out.
When the final whistle was blown and his team's place in the fifth round of the competition was assured, the Northern Irishman instantly set off towards the section of Kopites to show his gratitude.
Such displays of support are by no means a new thing to the manager, who has regularly expressed his awe of the fans since taking the reins in 2012, but his appreciation simply increases every time.
Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com: "They were fantastic - that's why I went over to them at the end and gave them that applause. It was a great effort.
"I spoke to some people at the airport that were going straight after work, at midnight, to come down and stay over.
"The fans follow the team everywhere; they are a unique, special group of supporters and I'm always thankful for that."
