Hendo had confidence in Cottage comeback
Although they fell behind twice at Craven Cottage on Wednesday, at no point did Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson or his teammates give up hope of roaring back to beat Fulham.
The Reds' unbeaten record in 2014 was hugely threatened by the Londoners, who were in front on two separate occasions in the Barclays Premier League clash courtesy of a Kolo Toure own goal and Kieran Richardson's effort.
Having earlier secured equalisers through Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, though, it was the visitors who finished the game smiling as Steven Gerrard heroically smashed home a winning penalty in stoppage time.
It was an outcome that Brendan Rodgers' side achieved through sheer force of will, and one which Henderson insists the team were confident of reaching - no matter what misfortune had befallen them.
The No.14 told the Liverpool Echo: "It's a great result for us. To go behind twice and come back and get the three points was massive for us.
"We really showed our character to fight back like that. Even when we were 2-1 down, we still thought we could win the game.
"We always kept believing that we could win it. We knew there was still time. We kept pressing and thankfully got the goal. Dan did really well to draw the foul and win the penalty, and Steven stuck it away brilliantly.
"We're delighted with the result and now we need to recover and get ready for the FA Cup tie at Arsenal on Sunday. It's a competition we want to do well in and we want to kick on again."
Midweek results elsewhere in the Premier League proved helpful too, with both Arsenal and Chelsea held to draws - leaving Liverpool just four points off the summit with 12 matches remaining.
To date, the manager has been keen to retain a realistic approach when questioned about a potential title challenge, and Henderson followed suit by focusing purely on the next fixture.
"We'll never say never," said the Englishman. "We are quietly confident in every game we go into but we just have to keep doing what we're doing and concentrate on ourselves.
"We have been playing well of late and our confidence is flying. Everyone is playing their part. We will see where we end up at the end of the season. All our focus is now on Arsenal as we know we've got a tough game coming up this weekend."
Amid the breathless drama of Liverpool's turnaround in West London, 21-year-old Joao Carlos Teixeira entered the action with eight minutes left on the clock to make a senior debut for the club.
The Portuguese starlet has been impressing during first-team training sessions at Melwood, with Henderson a member of the Academy talent's fan club.
He commented: "Joao has been brilliant in training since he has come up. He has been working really hard.
"He has fantastic ability on the ball and I thought he did really well after he came on. We've got some great young players here and he's an exciting prospect for the future."
