Daniel Agger started his first Liverpool match for six weeks in the FA Cup defeat by Arsenal on Sunday – but you would not have guessed that fact by poring over Opta statistics from the Emirates Stadium.

The Danish international was an imposing presence at the heart of the defence, completing 10 clearances, three interceptions and drawing two fouls throughout the 90 minutes in North London.

Liverpool were eliminated from the competition yesterday despite mounting a major offensive comeback against the Gunners after falling two goals behind either side of half-time.

Agger's passing from the back helped to prompt that process; the 29-year-old was successful with 94.3 per cent of his distribution - 8.6 per cent of those 35 attempts were considered long passes.

The Reds' No.5 also registered a single effort on goal, the late header from a Steven Gerrard free-kick which seemed destined for the top corner but ultimately carried wide.
