John Aldridge has revealed that he was equally disappointed that Daniel Sturridge was denied the chance to make Liverpool goalscoring history during the FA Cup clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds' No.15 travelled to North London having found the back of the net in eight consecutive appearances and with the knowledge that he could become the first player to do so in nine straight games for the club.

On three separate occasions, a teammate released the prolific striker in behind the Gunners' defence, but the home goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski, thwarted him each time in the 2-1 defeat.

Aldridge, who himself achieved the feat of firing eight successive times when he represented Liverpool, insisted that Sturridge can bounce back quickly if he continues to make the correct movements.

"I would have loved for Daniel Sturridge to have broken a club record we share with Dick Forshaw," he wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

"All three of us have scored in eight consecutive matches for Liverpool and Daniel looked set to make it nine on Sunday at Arsenal. Unfortunately, it didn't quite come off. As strikers, we all have off days when it just doesn't go right for you.

"Sturridge was bitterly disappointed at the end of the game but all he needs to do is make sure he keeps getting in those scoring situations. He makes great runs and stretches opposition defences this way and that.

"Daniel has made the decision to try and go round Lukasz Fabianski and it's not come off. But that's the way it goes sometimes. Fabianski, by the way, was man of the match on Sunday; he was brilliant."
