Brendan Rodgers today urged people to show their support for a special charity event at Anfield which will remember the lives of the 96 Liverpool fans who died at Hillsborough.

Entitled 'Celebration of the 96', the event has been planned by the Hillsborough Family Support Group with support from Liverpool FC, and will take place on Monday, April 21.

Its centre-piece will be a 90-minute match between local Liverpool legends and international legends, who will be managed by Kenny Dalglish and Gerard Houllier, respectively.

The likes of Jamie Carragher, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and John Barnes will represent Dalglish's side, while the international team will include Luis Garcia, Jan Molby, Dietmar Hamann and Vladimir Smicer.

"I think my message would be to supporters to get as many of them in the stadium as we can," said Rodgers during Thursday's press conference at Melwood.

"It's going to be a wonderful array of great names from the past and those who are presently working here for the club.

"There'll be the likes of Kenny Dalglish taking a team and Gerard Houllier taking a team. There's also a lot of the great players from Britain and then the international stars of this club. It's going to be a wonderful day and a great occasion.

"We just need to get as many people there as we can to keep the great spirit of the club alive and that of the former players and managers."

Tickets for the day will initially be available to season ticket holders and LFC members from Friday, February 28, with a general sale to follow on the week commencing March 10.

They are to be priced at £15 for an adult and £5 for kids. All proceeds will be split between the HFSG and LFC's charity, the Liverpool FC Foundation, which will be put back into the local community through the Foundation's programmes.
