Such is the vociferous and passionate level of enthusiasm among Liverpool supporters, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes the club's fans can play a crucial role in bringing success to Anfield.

Their voices were heard loud and proud throughout the Reds' emphatic 3-0 victory at Southampton on Saturday, which lifted Brendan Rodgers' team up to second place in the Barclays Premier League.

Mignolet, who significantly contributed himself via a reflex save to deny Jay Rodriguez shortly before half-time with the score at 1-0, thanked Kopites and requested more of the same in the final 10 games.

"It's not only today - they have been behind us since the first game of the season," the Belgian stopper told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.

"If you play away and you get that support behind you, it only makes it easier for us to win games. Hopefully they can keep it up. Home or away, the atmosphere inside the stadium is always very good and can only help us achieve great things.

"As a goalkeeper, sometimes you have to be there to help the team out when needed. Luckily today, with that save I managed to get a hand to it and didn't concede. I'm very pleased with that.

"I think we defended really well and credit to the team for the work-rate they put into it. After that, we didn't give much away and on the counter-attack we scored three goals. We're all very pleased."

In his press conference following the final whistle at St Mary's, the manager described the display as a 'really significant performance' - a sentiment shared by the No.22.

He explained: "It was very important today. If you go away to Southampton, a very good team, you know it's going to be tough and you're going to be under pressure.

"The result we got was very important for us. It was very pleasing to score three goals and keep a clean sheet.

"We did really well away to Southampton, who are a team that score easily and have got a lot of threats up front. We dealt really well with that. We're very pleased with the result and now we can look forward to the last 10 games of the season.

"We all have happy faces now before we go off for the international break. Then we can go again after that."

Having leapfrogged Arsenal and Manchester City with their victory on the south coast, Liverpool also remained within four points of Premier League pace-setters Chelsea.

All involved - from manager to staff to squad - are keen to remain realistic regarding a challenge for the championship, though, and none more than Mignolet.

"We just have to take every game as it comes; we have said that from the beginning," the 25-year-old concluded.

"We've got the international break now - after that, we have to make sure we prepare ourselves for the next game and not look too far ahead of us.

"Today we did our job and we have to do that next time again. Most of the lads have international games, so I'm sure everybody will stay focused throughout that period."
