Rodgers: Suso and Borini will benefit
Brendan Rodgers has explained why Liverpool's squad will be bolstered by the return of two improved players this summer when Fabio Borini and Suso head back to Merseyside following loan spells.
Borini has impressed during a temporary switch to fellow Barclays Premier League side Sunderland, netting a sublime effort in last weekend's Carling Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley, while Suso has notched up seven assists in 24 appearances for La Liga's Almeria.
"Fabio has got games and scored some very important goals," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.
"He got the opportunity to play in a major final at Wembley. All that bodes well for the future.
"The likes of young Suso has had a terrific loan in Spain playing regular first-team football.
"He will come back and come into the squad in the summer and then we will assess where he's at."
Borini and Suso are two of a total of 12 players Liverpool currently have out on loan.
Rodgers believes it's a system that can be advantageous to all concerned, particularly young players in search of first-team experience.
"The loans have certainly been beneficial," he said.
"There are different types of loans for different players. In particular for the young players it's very important for them to gain that experience.
"It's good for us to put them into clubs who operate with a similar philosophy. That helps their development and hopefully brings them back ready to play pressurised football at a high level.
"We've got Andre Wisdom doing really well at Derby at the top end of the Championship and young Conor getting league experience at Sheffield United. He needed to go away and prepare himself to play every single week."
Meanwhile, Rodgers has paid tribute to the attitude and determination of Liverpool's fringe players.
The manager acknowledges the form of some his senior stars, particularly the forward line, has made it difficult for the likes of Iago Aspas to hold down a first-team berth.
Rodgers explained: "It's been a season where it's been difficult for some of our fringe players, especially the strikers.
"I feel for the likes of Iago. He works tirelessly every day. He hasn't got a lot of minutes but he has been brilliantly professional. That indirectly helps the likes of Luis and Daniel.
"It's been hard for some of those guys but they have still committed themselves to help the overall team. I know that ultimately at some stage they will want to play games."
