Canos magic earns U18s United point
A sublime assist from Sergi Canos allowed Daniel Trickett-Smith to secure a point for Liverpool U18s in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday.
The Spaniard conjured up some outstanding skill to skip beyond two defenders and cross for his teammate to net with a first-time finish at the Aon Training Complex on 13 minutes.
Trickett-Smith's goal cancelled out an opener from United's Ashley Fletcher, who had found the target just five minutes earlier with a crisp effort beyond Ryan Crump.
United had some bright moments in the first half with Joe Riley striking a post when clean through and Fletcher having a goal disallowed, while at the other end Canos could have had a penalty when he went down following a challenge from Nicholas Ioannou.
England U17 starlet Sheyi Ojo showed promise down the left flank and he twice went close, while Canos fired a snap shot just over the top after another great run in the second half.
Neil Critchley also welcomed the return of Ryan Kent as he made his comeback from injury as a substitute and the young Reds will now go to Reading in great spirits for Wednesday's FA Youth Cup quarter-final.
Liverpool U18s: Crump, Waldron (Randall 62), Hart, Whelan, Roberts, Chirivella, Canos (Wilson 62), Griffin, Sinclair (Kent 70), Trickett-Smith, Ojo. Subs unused: Wheeler, Virtue.
