BR: Sturridge could become world-class
Brendan Rodgers once again highlighted Daniel Sturridge's archive of abilities as he underlined Liverpool's devotion to ensuring that the striker reaches world-class status.
The England international is enjoying his most prolific Barclays Premier League season, with 18 strikes, and today picked up his second Player of the Month prize of the campaign - winning the accolade for February after earning the same honour in August.
Sturridge has been in ferocious form up front, but Reds boss Rodgers predicts plenty more development for the forward as his career progresses.
"He's a really terrific boy," said the Northern Irishman. "He's humble, but he's also full of belief and confidence, which the best players have.
"He's 24, he's a very mature young guy and he's come into this club, scored the goals that he has, as well as shown world-class traits.
"I told him when he came in, that our aim over the next three years was to help him develop into a world-class player.
"He's got all the abilities and he must just continue showing them on the field."
The No.15 has maintained nearly a goal-a-game ratio for Liverpool since sealing a switch to Anfield from Premier League rivals Chelsea in January 2013.
Rodgers believes Sturridge's improved performances have been enabled by the foundation he now has with the Reds to enhance his potential.
"He just needed a platform to develop and he's made great strides since he's been here," the manager added.
"At 24, he still has a lot more development and he's focused on being the best he can be."
