Stevie surpasses 2012-13 figures
In firing a brace past Manchester United from the penalty spot on Sunday, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard surpassed his scoring record from last season – with nine games remaining to play.
The 33-year-old placed two precise spot-kicks into the corner at Old Trafford, and though he was denied by a post with a third attempt, the Reds ultimately ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.
With 10 goals already in the current campaign - eight from 12 yards out - the midfielder has beaten his record from last year, when he notched nine times for Brendan Rodgers' charges.
Gerrard has equalled his assists total too, with nine so far in 2013-14, as the No.8 continues to inspire his team, who are in second place in the Barclays Premier League ahead of the run-in.
