After featuring for the entirety of Liverpool's 6-3 goalfest at Cardiff City on Saturday, midfielder Joe Allen took a second to reflect on the 'amazing' form currently being produced by the prolific Reds.

Having twice trailed to the Bluebirds in Wales, a Luis Suarez hat-trick was wrapped between and around two conversions by defender Martin Skrtel and a customary strike from Daniel Sturridge.

The result maintained second place in the Barclays Premier League for Brendan Rodgers' side, while half-a-dozen goals set a new club record for the most scored in a single campaign in this era - 82 so far.

'Poetry in motion' has been the chant emanating from the travelling Kop in recent weeks as six successive victories have been chalked up, and Allen shared in the delight of the supporters.

"We have great belief and confidence amongst ourselves," he told Liverpoolfc.com after the final whistle at the Cardiff City Stadium.

"The fans were great again today; they have been all season. We're chuffed we were able to give them three points, six more goals and everyone knows we have been a massive threat in front of goal.

"With the two players we've got up top, along with other players getting into the box and creating chances, we're able to dig ourselves out of holes sometimes.

"It was huge and another great win for us. With this run we're on at the moment, it's amazing to be a part of it. Hopefully, we can keep going."

While plaudits were again directed towards Sturridge and Suarez for their intricate combination play in advanced areas, Skrtel was an additional threat from set-pieces, striking a second double of the year.

The powerful Slovakian has now registered six for the season - more than any other defender in the Premier League - and Allen stressed the importance of the centre-back's contribution.

He commented: "They'll be vitally important, I'm sure. Two huge goals from him today - credit to him. It adds to his goal tally and certainly helped us on to our victory."

Although the visitors were runaway winners by the time the referee called an end to proceedings, the home side had troubled the Reds throughout a hectic first half and took the lead on two occasions.

"We'll obviously analyse that and look at it - sometimes it happens in games," Allen said of a period in which Jordan Mutch and Fraizer Campbell each handed Cardiff an advantage.

"But the biggest thing is that we put it behind us and moved on. We clawed it back to get level and then move ahead in the second half. We made the game comfortable in the end."

With only Chelsea ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League standings at the moment, a 6-0 win for the Londoners over fellow contenders Arsenal had added an extra element of pressure for the Reds.

The response from Allen and co was unequivocal, however, with a 20th triumph of the 2013-14 campaign instantly reducing the deficit to the Blues to four points - with a game in hand too.

"We were aware of how that game went; you try not to let that distract you too much," the No.24 explained.

"We knew we had a job to do. With the victory last weekend, we wanted to make sure we kept the same sort of performance level - we certainly did that, especially in the second half."
