A group of Liverpool supporters are set to offer Brendan Rodgers and his men the ultimate welcome to Anfield ahead of the side's Barclays Premier League clash against Sunderland tonight.

After three successive away wins, the Reds return to their home ground this evening - and fan group 'Spion Kop 1906' are taking inspiration from a similar display of support that inspired their team to a much-needed victory against Tottenham Hotspur in January 2010.

The group have emerged to prominence this season after organising colourful flag and banner displays on the Kop before every home game.

They are now encouraging as many supporters as possible to get to the ground early with flags and banners to greet the team coach when it arrives at the stadium.

A spokesperson for the group said: "The reason behind the display is to show the team that we are right behind them, and hopefully our support can inspire them to push all the way.

"We are hopeful it will create a big atmosphere. The atmospheres throughout the season have been a big improvement on recent years. Of course, the results on the pitch make a difference but the fans can play a part as well."
