'No wonder Cafu loves Jon Flanagan'
It came as no surprise to John Aldridge that Jon Flanagan's performance during the 4-0 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday caught the attention of revered full-back Cafu.
Having been urged by Liverpool fans via social media to watch the 21-year-old in action for the Reds, the Brazilian legend and World Cup winner did just that at the weekend.
Given the composed and determined nature of the defender's contribution against Spurs, Cafu was naturally impressed, posting his impressions of the No.38 and the team on Twitter.
Far closer to home, Aldridge was equally delighted by the display. "No wonder Cafu loves him!" he enthused in his Liverpool Echo column.
"The early own goal from Younes Kaboul set the tone for Liverpool's win over Spurs, but Jon Flanagan epitomised just how up for it the Reds were.
"His two early challenges on Aaron Lennon - firm, but fair - let the Tottenham man know what kind of afternoon he was in for.
"Flanagan knows what it means to play for Liverpool. He's a fan just like us, and what a time he is having.
"He wasted one pass all afternoon, and had the confidence to produce a Cruyff-turn in his own half for the third goal."
