Liverpool's players are relishing the challenge of battling at the top of the Barclays Premier League table and all that comes with it, according to Colin Pascoe.

The Reds shot to the summit with a 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday and will look to maintain their charge when they take on West Ham United this weekend.

In an exclusive chat with Liverpoolfc.com at Melwood, assistant manager Pascoe admits the squad have enjoyed another good week on the training pitches as they get ready to go again - and insists they're enjoying every moment of it.

Colin, three games, eight days, 12 goals, nine points...could it have gone any better for Liverpool last week?

No, not really! The performance against Tottenham was unbelievable with the way the lads played. I know we had a great start that settled ourselves down, but it was a great game for us.

Given the circumstances around the game, knowing a victory would take us to the top of the table, what did it say about the players to be able to produce that kind of performance?

You can see from the way they are playing, they are enjoying it and working hard. Everyone is working hard for the team and that's how we're getting the results.

The players were certainly spurred on by that incredible atmosphere inside Anfield. What did you make of it?

It was unbelievable - but it had started against Sunderland in the previous match at the Shankly Gates with all the fans outside, flags waving and cheering us on. It was unbelievable. I thought during the games, the crowd went up a notch - they were louder and it was a great atmosphere.

Can the fans play a part in these final six games?

Yes, of course. Even at the start [of the Sunderland game] when we were driving in on the bus, with the singing and everything, they were superb - as they were against Tottenham. In the last three games we've got at home, long may it continue.

It's become a bit of a mantra around the club, focusing only on the next game. How do you and the other coaching staff ensure that happens?

It's a credit to the players. The way they prepare themselves and get themselves up for each game - you can't think ahead. They come in for training, prepare themselves right and work hard.

With so many young players in the squad, do you maybe have to reinforce that message a little bit more to them?

Well, no, not so much more. They realise when they're playing for Liverpool that you've got to be on your game. Every time you're training, you've got to prepare right and perform at the highest level.

The manager said after the Spurs game he was really enjoying and relishing Liverpool being on top of the table. Are the players?

Yes, they are. The performances speak for themselves. To get to where we are at the moment, the players are enjoying themselves in training and working hard. They come in with smiles on their faces and are enjoying the situation they're in.

West Ham up next. Given their two wins on the bounce, are they perhaps a different proposition now?

They're a different proposition anyway, without those two wins. They're a hard side with a different style to ourselves. We've got to make sure we're up for it and adapt to their style of play.

What kind of message will you, the manager and the rest of the coaching staff be conveying to the players ahead of kick-off?

Just relax and enjoy it - we've won eight on the bounce, let's go and try to make it nine!
