Trio collect Premier League March awards
Liverpool achieved an awards sweep on Friday as Brendan Rodgers was named Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month, while Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez shared the equivalent player prize.
The Reds were in imperious form throughout March, clocking up five consecutive victories and leapfrogging Chelsea and Manchester City to reach the summit of the standings.
Back-to-back 3-0 wins at Southampton and Manchester United were followed by three more triumphs in the space of eight days - with Cardiff City, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur downed.
It was no surprise, therefore, that Rodgers was acknowledged for the team's results, collecting the league's Manager of the Month honour; the second time he has received the award this season.
In a rare event, the Player of the Month winner was shared - with Reds captain Gerrard and the Premier League top scorer, Suarez, mutually accepting the individual accolade for March.
The former was a driving force in all five fixtures, stroking home a late penalty against the Saints, firing two more spot-kicks past Manchester United and planting a free-kick beyond Sunderland.
For his part, Suarez's displays were typically prolific; the Uruguayan found the target half-a-dozen times - including a hat-trick at Cardiff - and inspired his colleagues with insatiable work-rate and creativity.
