Sharing an award with Steven Gerrard is something Luis Suarez will be telling his children about in years to come, but he's more than happy to let the captain take the trophy home.

The pair were announced as joint-winners of the Barclays Player of the Month accolade for March today for their roles in helping Liverpool move to the top of the table.

However, Suarez is eager for Gerrard to take ownership of the prize as recognition of the No.8's outstanding form.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "This prize is more important for Stevie. I spoke with him about what we're going to do with one prize because we've both won Player of the Month - but it's for him for all he's done in his career.

"It's important because in the last few games, he's scored important goals. All of the players have tried their best on the pitch and if you have a really good team and squad on the pitch, you have a chance."

Gerrard hit four goals in five appearances in March, while Suarez netted six times in the same number of run outs.

Asked whether sharing the award with someone of Gerrard's stature made being named Player of the Month that bit more special, Suarez added: "Yes, of course. In my life I'll be able to say to my children in a few years that I won one prize as one of two players. I've never seen that before! It's amazing for me and Stevie, too."
