Liverpool fans can provide their team with the edge against Manchester City on Sunday, insists Luis Suarez – but the players will be aiming to remain calm amidst what's sure to be a red-hot atmosphere.

The sides will go head to head at Anfield in a mouth-watering encounter, with Brendan Rodgers' men looking to extend a nine-match winning run that has elevated them into first place.

As the campaign edges closer to a conclusion, Suarez is well aware of what is at stake and knows what sort of decibel levels the Kop will be generating as they aim to roar the Reds to success.

However, on the pitch, the Uruguayan claims Liverpool will approach the game with cool heads.

In an exclusive interview at Melwood, Suarez told Liverpoolfc.com: "The fans are the 12th man. The atmosphere at Anfield is amazing and when you go out onto the pitch and see that support, it's unbelievable.

"With this support every game, it's like we can't lose here at home. They are so strong for us but even if we lose a game or play badly, they'll continue to help us. For the team and the players, that's unbelievable. We will try to make sure they enjoy the game."

With Liverpool heading into the weekend perched at the summit of the Barclays Premier League, excitement levels amongst fans are naturally high.

Suarez feels it's only right that supporters savour the incredible form of their team.

"When the supporters are excited, we are excited as well," he said. "It's a really good game - the most important game this season because both teams are at the top.

"We'll play at home, but we'll keep calm, try to keep the ball and take it easy. We'll try to play with no pressure because when you do, it's more difficult for the players.

"The supporters now are really happy, but I think it's better they keep calm.

"They should enjoy the game and this moment because it's a good time for Liverpool supporters. They don't need to worry because we will try our best, give 120 per cent on the pitch and try to win the [remaining] games."

Victory for Liverpool would move them seven points ahead of City at the top of the table.

However, with four more games still to play following the visit of Manuel Pellegrini's team, Suarez is eager to stress nothing will be decided following the outcome of the contest.

"In the Premier League, we have two really good teams with ambitions of winning the league - Manchester City and Chelsea," he explained. "But now we know we have a really good chance, especially if we win the game on Sunday.

"But in football you never know what can happen, because we could win the game but then the next week lose to Norwich. This is normal in football. We still have four more games [after Man City]."

Among the 45,000-plus fans in attendance tomorrow cheering Liverpool on will likely be Suarez's wife and two children.

It's become a commonplace to see the No.7 wheel away in celebration in the direction of the Centenary Stand to salute his family up in the box.

Suarez admits they too are relishing what they've been witnessing on the pitch in recent weeks and claims they've become Liverpool fans in their own right.

"They love to watch the games there," he smiled. "They know the atmosphere of Anfield, the supporters, the people...they love it. Also, when I see them up there in the box, I love it because we enjoy the atmosphere together.

"They love the moment of Liverpool and they are a big support in my life.

"They are so happy with this moment, but not just my moment but Liverpool's moment. Even if I didn't play in a game, they'd still be supporters!"

With 29 goals to his name so far this season, Suarez will be aiming to make a decisive imprint on the clash with City - but he's not allowing himself to dream about what might be.

Suarez concluded: "This has been the best year for me; for my performance, for myself, for my life.

"But I don't want to think about what we [the team] might be doing at the end of the season, we must focus on the next game."
