Celtic and Manchester City will both make special tributes in memory of the 96 supporters who lost their lives at Hillsborough as Anfield pauses in remembrance on Sunday.

This coming Tuesday marks the 25th anniversary of the disaster, which occurred on April 15, 1989; the Reds' home ground will mark the occasion with an annual memorial service.

In keeping with all English football fixtures this weekend, today's game will kick off at 1.37pm BST, with a minute's silence to take place shortly before the action gets underway.

Supporters on the Kop will form a special mosaic in the minutes beforehand too, raising cards to come together in unison, while the players involved in the match will wear black armbands.

Before kick-off, City legends Mike Summerbee and Joe Corrigan will present a wreath of flowers, plus 96 blue and red roses, to non-executive director Kenny Dalglish and club ambassador Ian Rush.

At half-time, Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell, will present a wreath of flowers and a scarf to managing director Ian Ayre and Dalglish, with the latter returning a signed Liverpool shirt and letter of thanks on behalf of the club.

The Reds' strong bond with the Scottish champions was forged when, in the immediate aftermath of Hillsborough, Celtic arranged a benefit match - the Reds' first following the tragedy - to raise funds for the families.

Both wreaths will subsequently be laid at the Hillsborough memorial.
