Brendan Rodgers has issued a rallying cry to his players ahead of their trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace this evening, insisting the season is far from over.

The Reds shifted down to second place in the Barclays Premier League table on Saturday, following Manchester City's 3-2 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

Manuel Pellegrini's side currently lead the way on goal difference, with Liverpool and City locked together on 80 points at the league's summit.

Victory against Palace in the capital this evening would return the Reds to pole position once again, piling pressure on their rivals, while ensuring the destination of the title will be decided on the final day of the campaign.

"All we can control is our remaining two matches," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo. "We need to win those and then see where it takes us.

"We can't worry about anyone else, we just need to focus on our job. We will keep fighting right to the end.

"What these players have achieved so far this season is nothing short of remarkable.

"To arrive with two games to go with the possibility of achieving something people could only have dreamed of back in August really shows the scale of what we've done this year."

If Liverpool can take three points from tonight's encounter against Tony Pulis' men, it would guarantee the Reds a second-placed finish in the Premier League following Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Norwich City on Sunday.

Such a feat would signal the club's highest finish for five years - a vast improvement on the previous campaign, when Rodgers' side ended proceedings seventh in the standings.

"It's been a huge effort by everyone and I'm very proud," said the manager. "To think that we're in May and we've only just suffered our first defeat of this calendar year is a brilliant achievement.

"We are trying to build something here that is sustainable over many years and so far it has gone well.

"There is still plenty to play for this season. We want to finish strong. We had been in great form prior to the Chelsea game and now we want to get three points at Palace and kick-off another winning run."
