Five Reds in England World Cup squad
Five Liverpool players have today been named in Roy Hodgson's 23-man England squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
Steven Gerrard will captain the Three Lions in South America next month, with club colleagues Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge alongside him.
After a breakthrough campaign with his club, meanwhile, full-back Jon Flanagan has been included on a seven-man standby list for the journey.
The Reds, who concluded their Barclays Premier League season in second place on Sunday, boast the most representatives of a single club from the division.
Following preparatory friendlies against Peru, Ecuador and Honduras, England kick off their tournament on June 14 - with Italy their opening opponents.
Five days later, Luis Suarez and Uruguay will present the next obstacle, before Hodgson's team complete their group-stage campaign by facing Costa Rica.
The World Cup gets underway on Thursday, June 12, when the hosts take on Croatia. The final will be held at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, July 13.
