Beard seeks response against league leaders

The 2-1 defeat at City in the Continental Cup was a bitter pill to swallow for the Reds, but the manager is hoping his team can show their true colours against current league leaders, County.

Kick-off at Meadow Lane is at 2pm BST and admission is £6 for adults and £3 concessions.

Beard said: "I felt that we were second best across the pitch and that the body language wasn't good enough from the players against Manchester City. But that is forgotten about now and we have to regroup and go again against Notts County.

"Like every game in the WSL, this will be another tough game for us and it is crucial that we settle down early on and remain composed on the ball.

"It is vital that we improve our consistency and be more patient rather than forcing passes which we have done a few times this season, most notably against Everton [in the FA Cup] and at Manchester City on Wednesday night.

"They've got some quality attacking threats with the likes of Jess Clarke and Desiree Scott so we will have to be at our best to combat them."

With one win and a draw so far in their title defence, Beard's side have made a decent start to the 2014 Super League season.

Defender Lucy Bronze, who recently picked up the gong for the Women's Players' Player of the Year, admits the ladies can't wait to get back on the pitch and put things right after City.

She said: "Notts County have had an outstanding start to the season. I think maybe last season they had nothing going forward but were solid at the back.

"This season that seems to have changed and they look like a really well-rounded side. I think that they will be up there at the end of the season but then there are so many good sides who could challenge.

"There will be a lot of teams taking points off each other but we need to make sure we are consistent and win in games like this."
