Raheem Sterling can transfer his outstanding Liverpool form to the international stage this summer and become one of the World Cup's surprise packages, according to Glen Johnson.

The winger excelled for the Reds during 2013-14, landing the club's Young Player of the Year accolade after netting 10 goals in 38 appearances and helping form part of one of the most potent attacking forces in Europe.

Sterling's displays were recognised by Roy Hodgson, who named him as one of five Liverpool players in his England World Cup squad, and club mate Johnson is confident the 19-year-old can make an impact in Brazil.

"It is great to see a few more Liverpool players in the England squad," he said.

"Obviously Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson have been brilliant for us.

"Domestically they have been fantastic and I am sure they will get their chance to shine out here and play their part.

"Raheem could bring the element of surprise. Not too many players at the World Cup will have played against him so hopefully that can be a positive for us and play into our hands."
