Kolo Toure remained on the bench as Ivory Coast started their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 comeback triumph over Japan in Recife.

The Liverpool defender watched on as his side struck twice in as many second-half minutes to win, having trailed to an early goal by Keisuke Honda.

Wilfried Bony hauled the African heavyweights back into the match and Gervinho completed the turnaround in the fourth encounter of a busy day in Brazil.

Ivory Coast's next challenge arrives in the form of Group C rivals Colombia, who they meet on Thursday, while Japan will try to recover against Greece.
