Davison inspires Bristol scalp
Gemma Davison was on the mark as Liverpool Ladies continued their brilliant recent form with a 3-1 win away at Bristol Academy on Saturday night.
After the win over Everton in midweek, Matt Beard's side showed they are not ready to give up their title without a real fight as they produced a magnificent display.
Due to the heavy rain in the Bristol area the game had been in some doubt but thankfully the referee termed the pitch playable.
With Gemma Bonner and new signing Nina Pedersen outstanding at the back, Liverpool were always in control and this could be a big three points come the end of the WSL season.
Liverpool started well and took the lead through a sublime volley from Davison. A corner from Fara Williams was punched by the Bristol goalkeeper straight to Davison, and the No.10 volleyed the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
Katrin Omarsdottir was back in the starting XI after returning to full fitness and the Icelandic international went so close to 2-0 when she glanced a header just wide following a cross from Lucy Bronze.
However, Omarsdottir wasn't to be denied and she did make it 2-0 when she followed up after Amanda Da Costa's initial effort came back off the post.
Williams then had a 25-yard free-kick well saved before Kate Longurst was narrowly off target as the opening half came to a close.
Skipper Bonner was to make it 3-0 just after the restart when she got the final touch after a scramble in the box following a corner.
The home side were then reduced to 10 players when Rose was dismissed for a second bookable offence when she hauled down the brilliant Davison.
Natasha Harding fired a superb consolation goal for the home side when she curled home into the top corner, but it was to be Liverpool's night as they collected another vital three points.
Liverpool Ladies: Libby Stout, Lucy Bronze, Nina Pedersen, Gemma Bonner, Corina Schroder, Fara Williams, Katrin Omarsdottir (Katie Zelem), Amanda Da Costa, Gemma Davison (Becky Easton), Kate Longhurst (Ashley Hodson), Natasha Dowie.
