Joe Allen and Lazar Markovic may have only trained together on a handful of occasions, but the former has already witnessed the talents that earned the latter a move to Liverpool.

The 20-year-old Serbian attacker completed a switch to Anfield seven days ago, sealing the formalities of a transfer from Benfica to become the Reds' fourth summer signing.

Allen, Markovic and the entire travelling squad continued pre-season preparations in the USA today, running through drills at their Harvard training base ahead of a clash with AS Roma.

"Obviously he has only done a couple of sessions," the Welshman told Liverpoolfc.com of his new teammate. "But straight away, you can see the quality that he brings."

Allen added: "I'm really excited to get the chance to play with him and train alongside him as well."

Brendan Rodgers has brought four new recruits into his squad so far, with Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can preceding Markovic through the Melwood doors.

The quartet are all out in America for the Reds' tour and currently based in Boston; Allen believes their presence has inspired an extra element of determination in the camp.

"It has certainly added to the competition for places in the team," the 24-year-old explained. "It's always a good thing, it always brings the best out of everyone.

"We're delighted to welcome them in. They have settled straight in and I think they're looking forward to the matches on this tour."
