'Describe my debut? It was just amazing'
A debut goal amid a resounding 4-0 home victory over European contenders Borussia Dortmund was enough to prompt Dejan Lovren into labelling his maiden Liverpool appearance 'amazing'.
The Reds were in Chicago on the day that the Croatian defender completed his switch to Anfield from Southampton last month, following the path of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.
Lovren had to wait until Sunday's final pre-season fixture and the visit of Dortmund to stride onto the turf in L4 and show the thousands of Kopites in attendance what he brings to the club.
He did just that, commanding the defensive line, stemming the attacks from the German outfit and chipping in with a typically powerful headed goal to produce a fine debut.
"It was an amazing game," was the centre-half's initial analysis as he reflected to Liverpoolfc.com following a first run-out for his new employers.
"We're talking about Dortmund, who are in the Champions League every year and first or second in the German league.
"They are a quality team. We showed a quality style of football, with four goals and a clean sheet. It was amazing for us.
"We played very well and it was a good start for me also because I haven't had a long time with the team - but I feel like I've been here for a month already. It was a great start ahead of the season."
In addition to the familiar faces of Lambert and Lallana, Lovren expects his adaptation to life on Merseyside to be aided by a philosophy that holds similarities to those at St Mary's.
He said of Brendan Rodgers: "The coach has a similar style to what I had before at Southampton, so it was much easier for me to adapt here. I'm really glad about that.
"I have another week before the Southampton game so [the whole squad and I] will have time to meet each other. But I've already settled down here."
