Raheem Sterling and Rickie Lambert both provided assists as England beat Switzerland 2-0 in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier in Basel on Monday evening.

Liverpool's No.31 fired a cross from the left to allow Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck to slot home the opening goal for Roy Hodgson's side in the 58th minutes.

Sterling was a lively figure throughout the proceedings, twice coming close to scoring, and he and Jordan Henderson played the full 90 minutes.

Lambert was introduced as a 90th minute substitute for Wayne Rooney, and he made an immediate impact when his through ball found Welbeck who netted in stoppage time to seal a fine win for the Three Lions.
