25 years ago today Liverpool celebrated one of the biggest victories in the club's history with a 9-0 rout of Crystal Palace at Anfield.

The game included a special moment for John Aldridge, who found the back of the net in his final game for the club, whilst Glenn Hysen also got his name on the scoresheet on his home debut.

One man who wasn't among the eight different goalscorers that day was Ronnie Whelan, who recalls: "I was a defensive midfielder, so I did my job stopping them going in at the other end!

"I remember saying Ian Wright was getting frustrated and when it was 7-0 I said to him, 'Just try and keep going - I know it's difficult, but just try'.

"We never went out try and humiliate anybody, if it happened then it happened. We scored nine goals against Crystal Palace that night but we were good about it with them."
