Toure: I know we can cut out errors
Kolo Toure is convinced Liverpool can eradicate the mistakes that have blighted the beginning of their Barclays Premier League campaign when neighbours Everton make the trip across Stanley Park on Saturday.
Brendan Rodgers' side have slipped to three defeats in their opening five games; however, Toure believes the visit of the Blues will help galvanise the team to resume winning ways in front of a passionate Anfield crowd.
The Ivorian's return to the Reds' starting XI coincided with one of the more incredible nights in recent memory at L4 as Tuesday's Capital One Cup clash with Middlesbrough ended in a breath-taking penalty shootout.
Toure will now face stern competition to retain a place in the side for the forthcoming derby; however, he's confident that whoever is named at the back will be focused enough to keep the Blues at bay.
"We will learn from our mistakes and prepare for what we know will be a tough game," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"We beat them 4-0 here last season and I am sure they will know we are really quick going forward.
"I think it will be a tight game but we're at home and we'll look to go out fast. We know winning this one would make a big difference.
"There's a lot riding on it and we need the three points. We can't think about any other games coming up, we need to focus on Everton and give everything to this game.
"I think with that performance [against Boro] we showed that Liverpool have a good squad. Anyone can come in and do well.
"The bench is going to be really important this season because there are so many games with the Champions League as well as the other competitions."
The Boro game was Toure's first start of the current campaign - and the first time the former Arsenal and Manchester City man had been named in Rodgers' starting line-up since the dramatic 3-2 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage in February.
"I was so happy to play," he said. "We have a good squad and the manager has to pick the players.
"For sure I want to play more but it's up to the manager to put the right players into the team at the right time.
"I've never been part of a shootout quite like that.
"I remember in the African Nations Cup against Cameroon we had a long shootout with the player who took the first one eventually having to take another penalty which he missed. But it didn't go on for as long as this one.
"This one was the longest. It was unbelievable, 30 penalties. I took our seventh and I thought it was coming back to me again!
"It was tough but we showed a strong mentality to keep scoring goals. That showed the strength of the team."
The frenetic evening at Anfield will live long in the memory - not merely for the manner in which the game was eventually settled - but also for the fact that two Academy graduates stepped up to the plate in remarkable fashion on their competitive debuts.
Jordan Rossiter, the 17-year-old Scouser who began the game in midfield, drilled home the first goal after 10 minutes of play before being replaced by fellow youngster Jordan Williams, who held his nerve to fire in the shootout.
"Rossiter is a great player," said Toure. "I really like this boy. He scored a great goal and showed the strength of Liverpool Football Club.
"Every day when he comes to training he gives 100 per cent. When you play with young players like that you enjoy it.
"Lots of young players out there don't love football and they don't work hard. But with the boys we have here it's amazing.
"Williams also did really well when he came on. Both Jordans work hard and I wasn't surprised by how well they did."
