Jamie Carragher's 23 Foundation is seeking assistance in raising funds to support three-year-old James Toohey, who is suffering from a rare and fatal brain disease.

James has been diagnosed with Late Infantile Batten Disease, a neurodegenerative disease of which loss of sight is among the initial symptoms - and there is currently no known cure.

He has been accepted onto a clinical trial that will be conducted at Great Ormond Street Hospital later next month and will last for a year.

The trial will examine whether a new, experimental drug is safe for children and assess if it can alter the progression of the disease, offering a small glimmer of hope where none previously existed.

The 23 Foundation's campaign aims to pay for special needs and sensory toys to help the young child maintain and develop new skills.

Funds raised will provide physiotherapy to help James remain mobile and active for as long as possible and any medical equipment required.

Plans are also being put into place to send James on the holiday of a lifetime, in addition to supporting the Batten Disease Family Association, which funds research and aids families affected by the disease.

A shirt signed by the first-team squad has been donated to the cause by Liverpool FC, while the 23 Foundation has provided a number of items signed by Carragher.
