Fara Williams has called on her Liverpool Ladies teammates to remain fully focused as the race for the Women's Super League title that they lifted last season nears a dramatic finale.

A thrilling victory over Birmingham last weekend moved Matt Beard's charges to within one point of leaders Chelsea at the summit, courtesy of a sublime late lob from the halfway line by the midfielder.

With two games remaining, the Reds now not only need maximum points but require the Londoners to slip up. But as the next fixture is scheduled for October 5 at Arsenal, Williams has called for a sense of calm.

Reflecting on the win at Birmingham, she said: "It was a fantastic victory that has kept us in the hunt for Champions League qualification, but it is now crucial that we do not rest on our laurels and we now look ahead to another tough game against Arsenal Ladies early next month.

"Having won the FA Cup earlier in the season and picked up a few impressive results lately, we know it will be another tough game that we will have to be fully prepared for.

"With players such as Danielle Carter and Kelly Smith in their ranks, it will be a big test for us, so it is vital that we put in another big team performance."

On her incredible strike from distance that gave the Reds a dramatic win in the Midlands, Williams added: "I just had a quick look up and spotted Becky Spencer off her line. It was just a bit of quick thinking really and luckily for us it went in!"
