Divock Origi was on the scoresheet in Europa League action for Lille on Thursday evening, just as Brendan Rodgers had reiterated why the Belgian striker is such an exciting capture for Liverpool.

Having tracked the forward from his fledgling steps at international youth level, the Reds completed a deal in July to take the 19-year-old from Lille, where he remained on a season-long loan.

Origi has been in prolific form at the outset of the 2014-15 campaign, scoring three times in six Ligue 1 appearances for the French side as they took up residence in third place after eight fixtures.

He was on target again last night, this time in European competition, converting a penalty on 77 minutes in Lille's 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg.

On the same day, Rodgers had discussed the Belgium international and the skillset that should prove hugely beneficial to Liverpool once he arrives permanently next summer.

"We took a player in Divock Origi who we believe will be world-class and we'll get him next summer," commented the manager.

"He is a top player. He has everything - the speed, the profile and he can play now but our deal was that we couldn't bring him in now.

"That was unfortunate because he can run in behind, he can keep the ball, he can press and he can run."
