As he swiped a clever finish across the face of goal and into the far corner to open his Liverpool account in style, Adam Lallana dashed away to the left with a level of jubilation that merely endeared him further to watching Kopites.

The clock was showing 45 minutes at Anfield on Saturday when, with the Reds having yet to find a breakthrough against a stubborn West Bromwich Albion, the playmaker almost single-handedly altered the landscape of the encounter.

Collecting a pass from Rickie Lambert, the No.20 deployed a devilish stop-and-go spin to move beyond his close markers. The next stage was a clean and classy one-two with Jordan Henderson, allowing progress from the edge of the area to inside the box.

Once there, Lallana ensured the fluid attack had the conclusion it deserved, sending a sweeping effort past the reach of goalkeeper Ben Foster to claim his first strike for the club since completing a transfer from Southampton in the summer.

"A lot of my feelings were represented in my celebration," he later told Liverpoolfc.com of an emotional reaction which increased the already growing appreciation for a player of such exquisite control and touch.

"It was a proud moment and a bit of relief, as it's always nice to get off the mark. But, more importantly, we got the three points and that is a step in the right direction.

"The win is massive for everyone involved in the club. It's no secret that we've had a tough few games, but we dug in - which we knew we had to.

"West Brom were resilient and coming off the back of two good results. Teams come here and make it difficult for us, but credit to the lads, the manager and the fans - they stayed with us. We got the win in the end, which was what it was all about."

The victory on home soil ended a rare winless streak for Brendan Rodgers' side in the Barclays Premier League, the first time they had scooped all three points from a fixture in the division since dismantling Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of August.

It was particularly timely given the fact that many of the squad will now switch attention to representing their country on international duty, with the Reds not in action again for a fortnight.

Lallana explained: "It's huge because it's two weeks and if you get an indifferent result, and you're dwelling on it, it can last forever.

"We know it was a poor team display at Basel, but the best thing is that three days later we had another game. We used that to our advantage, took it and got the three points."

The Englishman found the net nine times in the Premier League last season, earning the recognition of his peers and a chance to feature at the World Cup in Brazil in addition to his subsequent transfer to Merseyside.

Having now registered a maiden conversion for his new club, Lallana is targeting an improvement to double figures during 2014-15 to supplement the exploits of those around and ahead of him.

"I got nine in the league last season so it would be nice to get double figures," he added.

"We have got to chip in, the likes of me, Philippe [Coutinho], Hendo and Raheem [Sterling]. We know we've all got to chip in and get goals; if we do that, we'll find ourselves winning a lot more games."
