Liverpool's Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana were all in action for England as they defeated San Marino 5-0 in Thursday night's Euro 2016 qualifier at Wembley.

Rickie Lambert was an unused substitute as Roy Hodgson's side breezed past the team ranked joint-208th alongside Bhutan at the bottom of the FIFA World Rankings.

Goals from Phil Jagielka, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Andros Townsend and an own-goal from Alessandro Della Valle sealed the win on the night, but not before Lallana deflected an effort into the back of the net, only to see the linesman wrongly rule out his first England goal for offside.

The result made it two wins out of two in Group E for the Three Lions, who beat Switzerland 2-0 in their opening fixture of the campaign at St. Jakob-Park in early September.

Hodgson named Henderson and Sterling in his starting XI for the tie, but opted to withdraw the pair at the interval, with Lallana coming off the substitutes' bench to replace Henderson and operate in an advanced role behind Rooney.

Lallana was impressive, demonstrating flickers of the nimble ingenuity that tore West Bromwich Albion to shreds at Anfield on Saturday; the Liverpool man ducking and diving to perfection around the edge of the San Marino box.

As the game played out almost entirely in the San Marino half, both Henderson and Sterling were inevitably busy during the opening 45 minutes, seeing plenty of the ball and manoeuvring into pockets of space.

Everton's Jagielka opened the scoring in the 24th minute, nodding home with ease to convert James Milner's corner. Rooney then doubled the deficit minutes before half-time, netting from the spot after being hacked to the floor in the penalty area.

It was 3-0 to the Three Lions shortly after the restart when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, introduced in place of Sterling, slid a cross to his Arsenal teammate Welbeck, who finished from close range.

Another substitute, Townsend, made it 4-0 with a neat drive from the edge of the penalty area before Rooney's attempt on goal in the 77th minute was deflected into the net by San Marino defender Della Valle to seal the rout.
