Liverpool defensive duo Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno each played 90 minutes on Friday afternoon as Spain U21s drew 0-0 with Serbia in the first leg of their European U21 Championship qualifying play-off.

The two nations are locking horns over two matches to decide a place for next summer's tournament in the Czech Republic, with the return fixture arranged for Tuesday October 14.

Manquillo and Moreno, who each joined the Reds earlier this year, were involved throughout today's goalless stalemate in Jagodina, handing the holders a slight advantage for their next meeting, in Cadiz in four days' time.

Signed on loan from Atletico Madrid, right-back Manquillo has impressed during nine appearances for Brendan Rodgers so far this season. His compatriot, meanwhile, can boast seven games and one goal since arriving permanently from Sevilla.
