Anfield was the setting and Olimpija Ljubljana the opponents when, on October 15, 2003, Gerrard took to the field for the first time as official captain of his boyhood club. Liverpool were 3-0 winners in the UEFA Cup clash.
From that date on, Gerrard has refused to look back, steering the side to silverware, inspiring them in the face of adversity and helping to pick the players up when disappointment has been the overriding emotion.
