Derby strike scoops Goal of the Month
Steven Gerrard's 10th Merseyside derby goal, a curling free-kick past Everton at Anfield in September, has been voted by fans as Liverpool's Goal of the Month, in association with EA SPORTS.
The captain whipped a precise set-piece beyond the reach of Tim Howard midway through the second half of the Reds' 223rd meeting with their rivals from across Stanley Park.
Unfortunately, it did not prove enough for three points on the day, due to Phil Jagielka's dramatic late equaliser. It did top our Goal of the Month poll, however, receiving 46 per cent of votes from supporters to take the prize.
Raheem Sterling's thunderous volley at West Ham United collected 13 per cent in second place, while Mario Balotelli earned third position for his maiden Liverpool strike against Ludogorets Razgrad.
Rounding off the top five, whittled down from an initial 10-goal shortlist, was youngster Jordan Rossiter - who marked his debut at home to Middlesbrough by scoring from long range - and Liverpool Ladies midfielder Fara Williams for a stunning hit from the halfway line.
