Liverpool's U19s were supported at every step on the way to a momentous 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon, beginning with a guard of honour from the Academy's U8s.

The clash with the Spanish giants was a rip-roaring occasion at Langtree Park in St Helens, with the young Reds initially racking up a two-goal advantage courtesy of efforts from Cameron Brannagan and Tom Brewitt.

Back came the visitors, notching twice in the second half to restore parity as both sides refused to relent from their attacking approach. And that proved the key for Liverpool, who secured a win when Harry Wilson clipped home a finish on 88 minutes.

Watching on from the sidelines were players from all levels of the club's thriving Academy, taking inspiration and education from seeing Jordan Rossiter and co produce such a stellar performance in an important fixture.

That support had started before the first whistle, with a group of U8s forming a guard of honour to welcome the players onto the pitch and subsequently acting as ball boys - the first time that age group had been involved in such a way.

The occasion was further useful practice as 'the Liverpool way' is instilled into the youngsters learning the game in Kirkby, with their responsibilities focused on the local community and helping teammates.
