Liverpool Ladies midfielder Amanda Da Costa is set to return to the United States after agreeing to join National Women's League side Washington Spirit.

The American is to return to her homeland after spending two years with Liverpool Ladies, winning the Women's Super League in both seasons during her spell on Merseyside.

Da Costa joined Matt Beard's side in 2012 from Boston Breakers and played a crucial role in helping to secure the Ladies' first ever league title.

She also featured regularly for the Reds this season, scoring some important goals - including the opener away to Birmingham City Ladies last month.

On her return to the USA, Da Costa said: "It has been an unbelievable two years for me at Liverpool. To win the league in my opening season was fantastic but to retain it and the manner in which we did it this year was incredible.

"Not only have I won the league in consecutive seasons but I have been surrounded by a group of girls who have become family to me. The decision to leave was a difficult one, and I know the future holds only great things for this club.

"For the club to reach the Women's Champions League in two successive years is a magnificent achievement for all involved and I am extremely proud to have been a part of it."

Ladies manager Beard said: "Amanda was an important part of our rebuilding process at Liverpool Ladies and has been superb for two years.

"Amanda was hugely influential in both title victories with her consistent performances, chipping in with a number of goals and assists. She is also a big character in the dressing room and will be sorely missed by her teammates.

"It will be a difficult job finding a replacement of her quality and character but I wish Amanda the best of luck in her future career. Everyone at Liverpool Ladies would like to wish Amanda good luck with her move back to the United States."
