Brendan Rodgers is expecting another tough assessment when tenacious Hull City make the trip to Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool are determined to record their third Barclays Premier League win on the spin, but face a tricky Tigers side who held Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in their last encounter.

Steve Bruce's men would have secured maximum points, but for Danny Welbeck's stoppage-time equaliser.

Hull also proved difficult for champions Manchester City, who took an early two-goal lead against them, only to find the scores level after 32 minutes. The visitors toiled and eventually broke the resistance at the KC Stadium, winning 4-2.

Rodgers is expecting a stubborn Hull to show up again, but anticipates Liverpool will unleash the Anfield effect.

"Steve's done an excellent job," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"They've brought in some reinforcements over the summer and that has given them real depth to their squad.

"They come here on the back of a good result last weekend. They played a sort of a 3-5-1-1 and made it hard for Arsenal. They were hard to break down.

"So we know it's going to be a real testing game. But Anfield is a special place to play for us.

"We've improved our record here 10-fold across the last few seasons, and we obviously respect every opponent, but we go into our home games confident of winning them."

Rodgers reiterated the fact that Liverpool are not the finished article yet.

"We're still very much a work in progress," said the manager.

"We've got lots of young players in our group and for all the perceptions and criticisms, we're still joint-fourth in the league even though it's early.

"We're also still in the [Capital One] Cup and playing Champions League football."
