Lazar Markovic is hoping to get the nod from Brendan Rodgers to feature against Swansea City this evening and stake his claim for further first-team action over the coming weeks.

The Serbia winger has made seven appearances since completing a summer switch from Benfica, but has been named on the bench for each of the Reds' last four outings.

If selected for the Capital One Cup fourth-round tie, Markovic will take to the pitch at Anfield aiming to show exactly what made Rodgers so eager to secure his services in the summer, though primarily looking to help Liverpool bolster their silverware hopes by moving into the next stage of the tournament.

"I have to play well and in doing so earn a place in the team - and hopefully the Swansea game is an opportunity for me to show what I can do," the 20-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com.

"My targets and ambitions for this season haven't changed since I joined the club, and I still have the same drive and motivation.

"Swansea are a good team. I've watched them a few times. It is going to be a difficult game but I am confident we can get the win.

"The League Cup is an important competition, as well as any other the club are competing in.

"It's evident we haven't been consistent up to now, but I feel that our up and coming games are an opportunity for us to gain composure, confidence and consistency."
