Callum Nicholas was on the mark as Liverpool U18s drew 1-1 with Everton in the mini-derby at the Kirkby Academy on Saturday morning.

In a competitive encounter, Neil Critchley's side opened the scoring through Nicholas, but the Blues deservedly got back on level terms to square the contest.

Andy Firth was the hero for the young Reds when he saved a penalty 10 minutes from time, and in a real positive note for the Academy, winger Sheyi Ojo came off the bench to play the final 20 minutes after returning from injury.

Reflecting on the draw, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a hard-fought game and a draw was probably a fair result.

"Andy made a great save from the penalty and we had late chances to win it but, overall, the lads did well."
