Borini and Markovic start at the Bernabeu
Brendan Rodgers has opted to make seven changes to his team as Liverpool prepare to lock horns with reigning European champions, Real Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight.
Defensively, the manager switches Kolo Toure in for Dejan Lovren and Javier Manquillo in for Glen Johnson for the Champions League Group B encounter in the Spanish capital.
In the middle of the park, Steven Gerrard comes out of the side to be replaced by Lucas Leiva, while summer signing Emre Can is preferred to Jordan Henderson. Martin Skrtel will captain the team.
Lazar Markovic replaces Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana starts ahead of Raheem Sterling for the clash against the La Liga pace-setters, who have racked up 11 consecutive wins in all competitions.
Up front, Fabio Borini is named ahead of his compatriot Mario Balotelli as Liverpool look to return to winning ways in Europe with a tought test against Carlo Ancelotti's Los Blancos.
