Liverpool Ladies were named Club of the Year at the FA Women's Football Awards on Friday night, in recognition of a campaign which saw them retain their Women's Super League title.

Matt Beard's charges clinched the league in truly breathtaking fashion on the final day of the 2013-14 season as scenes of unprecedented drama unfolded at Halton Stadium in Widnes on October 12.

They rose from third to first in the standings in the space of 90 minutes after their two rivals for the title, Chelsea and Birmingham City, both faltered in their fixtures, leaving the Ladies top of the table.

At an awards ceremony on Friday, the players, coaching staff and all those involved in helping the club operate so efficiently, both on and off the pitch, were rewarded for their tremendous efforts during the campaign.

The Reds went close to winning more prizes, too. Beard had been nominated for the Manager of the Year honour, while Natasha Dowie's strike against Sunderland in the Contintental Cup was in the running for Goal of the Season.

England U20 international Katie Zelem's performances earned her a place on the Development Squad Player of the Season shortlist; however, the trio were unlucky to lose out on what was otherwise another triumphant occasion for the Ladies.

The team were honoured alongside Yeovil Town Ladies, who picked up the WSL 2 Club of the Year accolade on the evening at Madame Tussauds in London.
