Liverpool's Joe Allen and Divock Origi went head-to-head on Sunday as their respective countries, Wales and Belgium, played out a 0-0 draw in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Allen featured for the entirety of the close-fought clash at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, while Origi was substituted in the 73rd minute to make way for Napoli's Dries Mertens.

Academy goalkeeper Danny Ward was named on the Wales bench for the clash, which saw Chris Coleman's charges lock horns with a side that reached the quarter-finals of this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Origi, who joined the Reds in the summer before returning to Lille for a season-long loan, had an opportunity to break the deadlock after 25 minutes, but the powerful Belgian shot wide from close range.

Allen turned in a diligent display in midfield and was arguably the best player on the pitch, up against the likes of Axel Witsel and Marouane Fellaini, while attempting to keep tabs on Eden Hazard, who was a constant thorn in the side for Wales.

Belgium were the dominant force in the game, particularly throughout the first half, as Tottenham Hotspur's Nacer Chadli was foiled by Wayne Hennessey and Nicolas Lombaerts struck the post.

Wales dug in, though, and the goalless draw, which was earned by stoic defending in the Belgian capital, means they remain unbeaten in qualifying, with eight points from their opening four games.

Meanwhile, Dejan Lovren was an unused substitute as Croatia drew 1-1 with Italy. Antonio Candreva fired the Azzurri ahead in the Group G qualifier; however, Ivan Perisic equalised shortly after and there was nothing further to separate the sides in Milan.

Oussama Assaidi scored a stunning goal during Morocco's 2-1 friendly victory over Zimbabwe. The Liverpool loanee put the finishing touch to an intricate team move by sweeping the ball home from range.
