Liverpool's Adam Lallana, Raheem Sterling and Rickie Lambert all came off the substitutes' bench for England on Tuesday night as the Three Lions beat Scotland 3-1 in a friendly fixture at Celtic Park.

The Reds' vice-captain, Jordan Henderson, was an unused sub for the game, in which Roy Hodgson's side established a two-goal cushion thanks to goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wayne Rooney.

Scotland refused to back down, though, and the home team pulled a goal back with seven minutes of normal time remaining when Andrew Robertson drove low beyond Fraser Forster.

However, two minutes later, Rooney's second goal of the game, assisted deftly by the diligent Lallana, put England back in control and allowed them to see out the victory.

Oxlade-Chamberlain broke the deadlock after 32 minutes of play. Jack Wilshere lofted a pass into the penalty area and his Arsenal teammate raced through the Scotland defence to nod beyond the grasp of David Marshall.

At half-time, Hodgson opted to introduce Lallana in place of former Liverpool man Stewart Downing and within two minutes of the restart England had doubled their advantage in Glasgow.

Scotland only partially cleared James Milner's free-kick and Luke Shaw fired the ball back into the area, where Rooney reacted first to a deflection to steer an instinctive header into the corner of the net and make it 2-0.

In the 66th minute, Hodgson brought in Sterling to replace Danny Welbeck, while he waited until the 80th minute of the match to bring Lambert on for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Within minutes of that substitution, Celtic Park was rocking. Robertson exchanged passes with Johnny Russell and continued his run into the box, where the full-back buried the return ball low to the right of Forster.

But the home side's resurgence was short-lived. An intricate team move released Lallana to the by-line and the Reds' No.20 demonstrated fine awareness to cut the ball inside for Rooney, who side-footed home England's third.
