Emre Can has already noticed a difference between the physicality of the Barclays Premier League compared to that of the Bundesliga - and the midfielder insists he's relishing the challenges that await him here.

Can scored his first Liverpool goal during the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea last weekend, when his long-range effort deflected beyond Thibaut Courtois to break the deadlock at Anfield.

It was the powerful German's third domestic start for the Reds - his fourth in total for the club since completing a switch from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

The U21 international has also made three substitute cameo appearance since the start of the campaign, coming from the bench against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid at Anfield.

Can has encountered intense physical duels, particularly in the league games to date - but the No.23 feels he is growing progressively fitter all the time at Melwood and intends to help the Reds rekindle peak form.

"In Germany, it's pass, pass, pass. That makes it easier for the top team because they are usually better at passing," he explained.

"In England the test is different every week. I have realised you need to win the physical challenges before you win the technical challenges.

"When a top team plays the bottom team in Germany, the top team usually wins by a good score. But here everything is fought for.

"If your levels drop in the Premier League, even against the bottom team, you will get punished. But we know if we perform to our maximum we can achieve good results.

"In terms of fitness, I feel close to where I want to be now. I want to help the team improve its results."
