Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool will not shy away from adversity, but use it as a opportunity to right the wrongs of the season thus far.

The Reds return to action on Sunday with a trip to Crystal Palace following the international break, and the manager is confident of solving the club's conundrums and creating a platform for his charges to move up the league.

"Adverse moments always provide you with the opportunity to go and fight even harder, and that's something we all aim to do here, from the staff to the players - the club is very much together," Rodgers said at his pre-match press conference.

"It hasn't been a great start for us, but we know we're only a short distance away from getting a few results that will push us back up.

"We're also in the quarter-finals of a cup competition and it's still in our hands in the Champions League, but we've just got to focus on moving on from a difficult period. We need to win games and, of course, that always changes the outlook."

Rodgers is drawing comfort from his squad, who despite the struggles in the campaign, have remained committed and optimistic.

"We came into the season knowing it was going to be a big challenge and it has proved to be that," the Liverpool boss admitted.

"But the players have been absolutely remarkable in how they've approached training and the situation. We're hoping that we can find that extra one per cent which allows us to get a victory, do the basics right and that will allow our confidence to grow. The wins will then just start to flow from there.

"We're hoping that will be the case come the weekend."

Liverpool have won two of their last seven visits to Selhurst Park in all competitions, and Rodgers anticipates another demanding day against the Eagles.

"They are very difficult to break down and Neil [Warnock] is a good manager with great experience who always gets his sides motivated to play," he said.

"But we come off the international break looking to start an exciting run of games with a win. We're determined to kickstart our season."
