Saturday's early Barclays Premier League kick-off pitted Andre Wisdom and West Bromwich Albion against Arsenal. The defender completed the match as the Baggies lost 1-0.
Sebastian Coates was an unused substitute for Sunderland as they secured a creditable goalless draw with the Premier League leaders, Chelsea, at the Stadium of Light.
In the Championship, table-toppers Derby County used Jordon Ibe for 66 minutes. They were beaten 2-0 at Leeds United, however.
Later in the day, Luis Alberto watched from the sidelines as Malaga were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Real Madrid in La Liga. It was the same scenario for Iago Aspas as Sevilla downed Granada 5-1.
In Ligue 1 on Sunday, Divock Origi featured for 81 minutes but could not prevent Lille from enduring a 1-0 defeat by Bordeaux. Centre-back Tiago Ilori remained on the bench for the opposition.
Fellow young defender Rafael Paez was restricted to the sidelines too for Bologna - they triumphed 2-0 in their Serie B encounter with Bari.
